Navy wife, working mom, confused 20-something...
I'm still basically trying to figure out who I am. Then again, who isn't? I'd hate to imagine the human being who stops evolving on a personal level.

I can agree with some of his points - having lots of student projects on display and evidence of people feeling comfortable in the school, teachers with respectful attitudes, etc. I think most of his vision is a bit too... utopian, for lack of a better word? I can't see one teacher being able to maintain focus and discipline for many small groups working on too many projects through the entire day. If there's a way to do that with 25-40 kids per classroom, I'm more than interested in hearing about it!

A page expanding on the weaknesses in public education. I understand the author's frustration, but I think it may be a bit misdirected. Standardized testing is a smidge on the pointless side - I know many, many people who are extremely intelligent and have a full understanding of a concept, but say the word "test" in relation to the concept and mental blocks pop up in their head and they're just done. Can not compute anything else...
That doesn't necessarily mean teachers are using tests as an excuse not to do their jobs. Apathy of students is probably a big one for them or "holier than thou" attitudes from their students may be another... or possibly being ground down by the system? Maybe being sick of feeling like the only adult that cares in the life of too many kids?
I'm winding up sidetracked on a rant of my own, which isn't what I intended. Basically, I can see where this site is going, I just don't agree with how it's presented.
